At sixteen, this young king possessed neither experience nor credentials, yet he had something more valuable—humility to be taught. The fear of the Lord became his foundation, and divine blessing followed naturally. Today, we often pursue success through strategy, networking, and self-promotion, forgetting that God is the ultimate source of every good gift. True prosperity flows from a heart positioned before God in reverence and dependence. When you seek Him first, everything else finds its proper place. Your greatest achievements will never come from your own strength but from your willingness to remain teachable before the One who holds all things in His hands.

Day 2: Remembering the Source

Reading: Deuteronomy 8:11-18; James 1:17

Devotional:

God's warning to Israel echoes through Uzziah's story: prosperity can breed spiritual amnesia. When bank accounts grow, careers flourish, and influence expands, we face a subtle temptation—to credit ourselves for what God has done. Moses warned against saying, "My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth." Every promotion, every open door, every blessing traces back to God's gracious hand. Gratitude is the antidote to pride. Take inventory today of your blessings—your health, relationships, opportunities, and provisions. Acknowledge God as the giver. Write down three specific ways He has blessed you this week, and thank Him intentionally. Remembering keeps your heart soft and your spirit dependent, protecting you from the dangerous delusion of self-sufficiency.

Day 3: The Peril of Pride

Reading: 2 Chronicles 26:16-21; Proverbs 16:18

Devotional:

"When he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction." These haunting words mark the turning point in Uzziah's life. Strength became his stumbling block; success became his snare. Pride doesn't announce itself with fanfare—it creeps in quietly through unopposed thoughts of self-importance. Uzziah's decision to enter the temple unlawfully revealed a heart that had shifted from dependence to entitlement. He believed his accomplishments entitled him to privileges God had not granted. Pride blinds us to boundaries and deafens us to correction. When eighty priests confronted him, he responded with anger rather than humility. Today, examine your heart: How do you respond when corrected? Do you defend, deflect, or receive instruction graciously? Your response to correction reveals whether success is making you better or bitter.

Day 4: The Gift of Correction

Reading: Proverbs 12:1; 15:31-33; Hebrews 12:5-11

Devotional:

Azariah and eighty priests loved Uzziah enough to confront him. True friends don't flatter your pride—they protect your soul. Yet Uzziah's anger at correction cost him everything. The very moment he needed humility most, pride seized control. God surrounds us with people who speak truth into our lives—pastors, mentors, faithful friends, even family members who see what we cannot. These voices are gifts, not threats. Correction feels uncomfortable because it exposes our limitations and challenges our self-perception. But those who embrace correction position themselves for continued growth and blessing. Rejection of correction leads to isolation and destruction. Ask God today to give you a teachable spirit. Identify someone in your life who speaks truth to you and thank them for their faithful investment in your spiritual health.

Day 5: Staying Humble in Every Season

Reading: Philippians 2:3-11; 1 Peter 5:5-7
Devotional:
Jesus Christ is our ultimate model of humility. Though equal with God, He emptied Himself, took the form of a servant, and humbled Himself to death on a cross. If the Son of God embraced humility, how much more should we? Uzziah's tragic end teaches us that humility isn't just for beginners—it's for every season of life. Success doesn't exempt you from dependence on God; it increases your need for it. Peter reminds us that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humility positions you for continuous grace. Today, commit to three practices: maintain a vibrant prayer life, stay connected to spiritual community, and cultivate gratitude daily. Let Uzziah's story be a warning and Jesus' example be your pattern. True greatness is found not in self-exaltation but in humble surrender to God's will and ways.

Success is a blessing, but it can also be dangerous. King Uzziah's story reminds us that the greatest test isn't always failure—it's prosperity. He started strong at 16, seeking God and experiencing incredible blessing. His army grew, his cities expanded, his fame spread. But 2 Chronicles 26:16 reveals the turning point: "When he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction."
The secret to lasting success? Stay humble. Stay teachable. Stay dependent on God.

When Paul pleaded three times for relief, God's response wasn't removal but reassurance: "My grace is sufficient for you." This divine exchange teaches us that real strength emerges not from self-sufficiency but from complete dependence on God. Today, consider what "thorns" you're carrying. Instead of viewing them as disqualifications, see them as opportunities for God's power to manifest. Surrender isn't defeat; it's the doorway to divine strength. When we stop pretending we have it all together and honestly admit our need, we position ourselves to experience God's enabling grace working mightily through our acknowledged weakness.

Day 2: God Hears Our Cry

Reading: Psalm 18:1-19

Devotional: In moments of distress, we discover a profound truth: our enemies may be too strong for us, but they're never too strong for God. The psalmist's testimony reveals that God heard his cry from the sanctuary, responding with deliverance from powerful adversaries. Notice the progression—distress led to crying out, which brought divine intervention. Our vulnerability isn't a weakness; it's the catalyst for encountering God's strength. When life's battles overwhelm you, remember that crying out to God isn't admitting defeat—it's activating faith. The Lord supports those who acknowledge their need. Today, bring your struggles honestly before God. Don't minimize your distress or pretend strength you don't possess. Your authentic cry reaches His ears and moves His heart.

Day 3: Staying Connected to the Source

Reading: John 15:1-8

Devotional: Jesus uses the vivid imagery of vine and branches to illustrate a critical spiritual principle: disconnection leads to death, but abiding produces abundant life. A branch severed from the vine may appear alive temporarily, but without the life-giving flow from its source, it inevitably withers. Many believers disconnect gradually—missing fellowship, neglecting Scripture, reducing prayer—while maintaining an appearance of spiritual vitality. But eventually, the dryness becomes evident. Dependence on Christ isn't weakness; it's wisdom. Just as branches cannot bear fruit independently, we cannot live victoriously apart from constant connection to Jesus. Evaluate your spiritual connections today. Are you truly abiding, or merely appearing alive? Reconnect through worship, Scripture, and community. Your fruitfulness depends entirely on remaining attached to the source of life.

Day 4: The Danger of Self-Sufficiency

Reading: 2 Chronicles 26:1-21

Devotional: King Uzziah's tragic story illustrates a sobering truth: success can become our greatest spiritual danger. He accomplished remarkable things—military victories, agricultural innovations, architectural achievements—but Scripture records this turning point: "When he became strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction." Self-sufficiency replaced God-dependency, and pride preceded his fall. Our greatest vulnerability often emerges not in weakness but in seasons of strength when we're tempted to credit ourselves rather than God. The reminder of our need for God isn't punishment; it's protection against the destructive pride that says, "I did this." Today, examine your heart. Are you attributing your successes to God or yourself? Cultivate gratitude that acknowledges every good thing comes from above, keeping you humble and dependent.

Day 5: Opening the Door to the Holy Spirit

Reading: Revelation 3:14-22

Devotional: Christ stands at the door and knocks, but He never forces entry. The Holy Spirit is not an intruder; He awaits invitation into every area of our lives. Many believers welcome Him into some rooms while keeping others locked—hidden struggles, buried shame, unconfessed sin. But partial surrender produces partial power. The forensic evidence of the Spirit's presence in our lives should show "no forced entry"—we opened the door willingly, completely. Today is your opportunity to unlock every closed area. Where do you need the Holy Spirit's power? What weakness have you tried managing alone? What burden are you carrying without divine help? Stop pretending strength and invite His presence fully. When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you receive power—not to appear strong, but to be genuinely transformed by His strength working through your acknowledged weakness.

Conclusion
Are you strong enough to be weak?
God's power works best in our weakness. When we stop pretending that we have it all together and surrender to Him, that's when real strength flows. The Apostle Paul learned this truth when God told him, "My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
Your struggles don't disqualify you—they're opportunities for God to show His strength through you. Like a cast on a broken arm, your weakness shows something is healing. When we admit "I need help," "I'm struggling," "I don't have all the answers," that's when God meets us right where we are.
Stop carrying burdens alone. Real strength comes from surrender. Come to Jesus—He promises rest for your soul. You don't have to be perfect to be powerful; you just need to be filled with His Spirit.

Living Water Church
24 Shade Tree Lane – Riverhead, NY 11901 - https://livingwater.online
BRINGING A MESSAGE OF HOPE TO ALL PEOPLE

Today's passage reminds us that wisdom isn't measured by degrees or achievements, but by our investment in souls. Those who lead others toward righteousness will shine like stars—not for a season, but forever. This isn't about perfection; it's about purpose. You don't need a platform to make an eternal impact. A conversation over coffee, a prayer with a coworker, or an invitation to church can change someone's trajectory forever. Heaven keeps records not of your accomplishments, but of your influence. Ask yourself today: What am I shining for? Applause fades, but souls are eternal. Your faithful witness today creates light that never dims.

Day 2: Salt and Light in a Dark World

Reading: Matthew 5:13-16

Jesus doesn't suggest you might become salt and light—He declares you already are. This is your identity, not your aspiration. Salt preserves and flavors; it must make contact to work. You cannot withdraw from the world and fulfill your calling. Your presence in your workplace, neighborhood, and family preserves truth in a decaying culture. Light doesn't fight darkness—it simply shines, and darkness flees. Even a small candle transforms an entire room. You were not created to blend in or hide your faith. A city on a hill cannot be hidden, and neither should your life in Christ. Today, recognize that your very presence carries Kingdom influence. Don't minimize your impact. Step into your God-given role as salt and light wherever you go.

Day 3: Love as a Lifestyle, Not a Feeling

Reading: 1 John 4:7-12; 2 John 1:6

Love is God's language, and it must be demonstrated, not just declared. The world has heard enough talk about love; they need to see it lived out. Biblical love isn't an emotion that comes and goes—it's a commandment we walk in daily. Love in action looks like forgiving the undeserving, serving without applause, giving generously, and responding with grace when criticized. This kind of love is supernatural; it reflects God Himself, for "God is love." People don't just need to hear about Jesus—they need to see Him in you. Your patience in traffic, your kindness to difficult people, your generosity when it's inconvenient—these are sermons without words. Today, ask God for one opportunity to demonstrate radical love that surprises someone with grace.

Day 4: Your Influence Is Your Leadership

Reading: Philippians 2:14-16

Every believer is a leader because every believer has influence. Someone is watching how you handle disappointment, respond to conflict, and maintain faith during trials. You hold forth the word of life not just through what you say, but through how you live. Your children notice if your faith is real. Your coworkers see whether you practice what you preach. Your neighbors observe if Christ makes an actual difference in your life. When you stay faithful in difficulty, you shine. When you remain kind in conflict, you shine. When you speak hope into negativity, you shine like a star in the universe. You may never preach from a stage, but you preach every single day with your actions. Consistency gives credibility to your message. Today, live with the awareness that your life is a sermon someone needs to hear.

Day 5: Living for What Lasts Forever

Reading: ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭3‬:‭10‬-‭15‬ ‭

One day, everything temporary will fade—titles, achievements, possessions, applause. But souls remain forever. The question isn't whether you're building something, but what you're building with. Are you investing in what burns away or what lasts eternally? Gold, silver, and precious stones represent eternal investments—leading people to Christ, showing radical love, living with integrity, and pointing others toward righteousness. This week, you've been challenged to shine for eternity. Now make it practical: Pray for one person God places on your heart. Invite someone boldly to encounter Christ. Live consistently so your life validates your words. Love radically in ways that surprise people with grace. When you stand before the Lord, may it be said that your life didn't merely exist—it illuminated the path to Jesus for others.

Weekly Challenge: Identify one person this week to intentionally influence for Christ through prayer, invitation, consistent living, and radical love. Remember: you are salt and light, called to shine for eternity.

5-Day Devotional: The Power of a Turning Point by Philip Cappuccio

Day 1: Coming to Yourself

Reading: Luke 15:11-24

Devotional: The prodigal son's journey began when "he came to himself." In the pig pen of his poor choices, he finally saw his situation honestly. Turning points start with truth—acknowledging where we are without blame or excuses. Like the son remembering his father's house, we must remember whose we are. God doesn't wait for us to clean up before running toward us. He meets us in our brokenness. Today, ask yourself: What truth have I been avoiding? Where do I need to stop blaming circumstances and take responsibility? Your honest assessment isn't condemnation—it's the first step toward freedom. God is already running toward you.

Day 2: The Gift of Repentance

Reading: 2 Timothy 2:24-26

Devotional: Repentance isn't just feeling sorry—it's receiving God's gift to change direction. The scripture speaks of those "taken captive by the devil" who need to "recover themselves." You may hold the keys to your own deliverance. The enemy keeps yanking your chain, pulling you back to old patterns, but God offers metanoia—a complete change of mind. This isn't about willpower; it's about accepting grace to turn around. Moses spent forty years keeping sheep, feeling like a failure, until God appeared in a burning bush. Your past doesn't disqualify you; it positions you for encounter. What chain needs breaking today? Receive the gift—turn toward God and watch Him open prison doors.

Day 3: Taking the First Step

Reading: Exodus 3:1-12

Devotional: "I will arise," the prodigal declared. Turning points demand action, not just emotion. Moses had to turn aside to see the burning bush before God spoke. Gideon had to believe what God said about him before he could deliver Israel. Your breakthrough begins with movement in the right direction. You don't have to have it all figured out—just take the first step. The son didn't know his father was watching, ready to run. God meets us in motion toward Him. What step have you been postponing? Perhaps it's ending a toxic relationship, joining a community, or simply showing up. Don't wait for perfect conditions. Arise today. Your waiting Father sees you coming.

Day 4: The Father's Embrace

Reading: Psalm 103:8-14

Devotional: The father didn't wait at the gate demanding explanations—he ran. Before the son finished his rehearsed speech, the father called for the robe, ring, and shoes. You were never worthy by performance; you're a son or daughter by birth. God's love isn't based on your worthiness but His character. He kisses you while you still smell like the pig pen. His embrace restores your identity when shame tries to redefine you. Like Derek Redmond's father jumping onto the track, God doesn't just watch your struggle—He wraps His arm around you and says, "We'll finish together." Stop trying to earn what's already yours. Receive the Father's affirming love today. You are His beloved.

Day 5: Living in the Turning Point

Reading: Isaiah 43:18-19
Devotional: "Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?" God makes all things new—not just forgives the old. Your turning point isn't just about leaving the pig pen; it's about stepping into destiny. The father restored the son to society, giving him a future, not just a past erased. What God has placed in you hasn't been canceled by your detours. Your crippled condition, like Derek Redmond's torn hamstring, can reveal the Father's strength in ways victory never could. Today is turning point Sunday. Declare it over your life. Connect with spiritual fathers and mothers. Take the next step. God isn't finished with you—your best days are ahead. Walk forward in faith.

He didn't need to speak—He's God. He could have simply thought creation into existence. But He chose to speak: "Let there be light." Why? Because He was establishing a pattern for us, His image-bearers. When God created humanity in His image, He gave us this same creative power through our words. Your tongue may be small, but like the rudder of a great ship, it directs the course of your entire life. Today, pause and consider: What am I creating with my words? Am I speaking life or death? Remember, you're made in the image of the God who spoke worlds into existence. Your words matter more than you realize.

Reflection: What have you been speaking over your life that needs to change?

Day 2: Death and Life in the Tongue

Reading: Proverbs 18:21; James 3:2-6

Devotional: Scripture is clear: death and life are in the power of the tongue, and you will eat the fruit of what you speak. If you're constantly speaking defeat, don't be surprised when your life tastes like failure. Your words aren't just noise or venting—they're seeds being planted in the soil of your future. James compares the tongue to a bit in a horse's mouth and a ship's rudder. These tiny instruments control massive forces. You cannot control every storm that comes your way, but you can control your rudder. You can't change the wind, but you can adjust your words. Stop speaking what you fear and start declaring what God has promised. Your mouth is planting tomorrow's garden today.

Reflection: What negative patterns have you been watering with your words?

Day 3: Breaking Out of the Rut

Reading: Psalm 19:14; Romans 12:2
Devotional: Your brain forms grooves—literal pathways—based on what you repeatedly think and say. The more you rehearse a thought pattern, the deeper the rut becomes, and the easier it is to fall back into it. "I'm not good enough." "This always happens to me." "I'll never change." These aren't just harmless thoughts; they're ruts that keep you traveling the same destructive path. The enemy wants you stuck in that groove of least resistance. But God wants to renew your mind and give you new pathways. Today, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the ruts you're stuck in. Then make a conscious decision to jump out. Replace the lie with truth. It won't be easy—old grooves pull hard—but with God's help, you can create new patterns that lead to life.

Reflection: What specific lie do you need to replace with God's truth today?

Day 4: Speaking Life Into Others

Reading: Proverbs 15:1; Ephesians 4:29
Devotional: A soft answer turns away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger. One harsh sentence can ruin a whole evening; one gentle word can stop a fight before it starts. Your words don't just affect you—they shape the atmosphere around you and impact everyone in your life. God calls us to speak words that build up, not tear down. Today's challenge is specific encouragement. Don't just say, "You're great." Say, "I appreciate how you stayed steady when things got stressful." Find something real and speak life into it. When you bless others with your words, you're creating an atmosphere of grace rather than criticism. You're becoming a light in a dark world. Remember: your tongue can be medicine or poison. Choose healing.

Reflection: Who needs you to speak specific, life-giving words to them today?

Day 5: Guarding Your Heart and Mouth

Reading: Psalm 141:3; Philippians 4:8; 2 Corinthians 10:5

Devotional: David prayed, "Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips." This is a prayer of surrender—acknowledging that we need God's help to control our tongues. Some of us need to pray this before we even open our eyes in the morning. The battle begins in your thought life. What you meditate on in your heart will eventually come out of your mouth. That's why Paul tells us to take every thought captive and think on things that are true, noble, and praiseworthy. Don't just fast food—fast complaining. Stop rehearsing your problems and start addressing them as a problem-solver, not a murmurer. When you align with God before the day gets loud, you give Him control of your words, your thoughts, and ultimately your destiny.

Reflection: Will you commit to praying Psalm 141:3 every morning this week before you speak?

Final Challenge: Implement the 5-step action plan from this message. Remember: your mouth is not neutral. Your words are either building a landing strip for faith or constructing a cage of fear. Choose life today.

When Fear Meets Faith

This reveals a profound truth: our lack of faith troubles Him more than our circumstances. The disciples forgot Jesus had said, "Let us go to the other side," not "Let us drown halfway there." When storms arise in your life, remember that fear begins where faith ends. You cannot harbor both simultaneously. Jesus' promise to bring you through remains unchanged, regardless of how fierce the winds blow. Today, examine what you're more focused on—the size of your storm or the size of your Savior. His word over your life is more reliable than the circumstances around you. Faith doesn't eliminate storms; it changes how you respond within them.

Day 2: The Power of Peace Within

Reading: John 14:27, Philippians 4:6-7

Devotional: Jesus offers a peace the world cannot give—one that defies logic and transcends circumstances. Sometimes God calms the storm around us, but more often He calms the storm within us. Which is more miraculous: Jesus commanding the wind to cease, or Jesus sleeping peacefully while the storm raged? True peace isn't the absence of trouble; it's the presence of God in the midst of trouble. Paul instructs us to "be anxious for nothing"—not some things, but nothing. This seems impossible until we understand that anxiety reveals where we're trusting ourselves instead of God. When worry weighs down your heart today, practice casting that specific care upon Him. Don't pick it back up. His peace guards your heart and mind when you commit your concerns to Him in prayer.

Day 3: Seeking With All Your Heart

Reading: Jeremiah 29:11-13, Matthew 6:25-34

Devotional: God's promise of hope and a future comes with a condition: seeking Him wholeheartedly. This isn't casual searching—it's the desperate hunt for lost keys, the frantic search for a missing wallet. How badly do you want freedom from anxiety? Jesus addressed humanity's three basic needs—food, clothing, shelter—and said seeking God's kingdom first ensures these will be provided. Yet we exhaust ourselves seeking security while giving God leftover attention. Seeking God means relentless pursuit, not ten-minute prayers followed by self-reliance. When you seek Him with your whole heart, He promises to be found. Today, evaluate your seeking. Are you frantically searching for solutions or desperately pursuing the Solution-Giver? The birds don't worry, the flowers don't fret—and you are worth far more to your Heavenly Father.

Day 4: The Heart Issue Behind Anxiety

Reading: Proverbs 4:23, Matthew 15:18-19

Devotional: Every problem you face flows from your heart. Anxiety isn't just about circumstances; it's about unresolved heart issues—pent-up anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, or past wounds. Many believers attend church faithfully, give generously, and serve diligently yet remain bound internally because heart issues go unaddressed. You can be saved and still not be free. Anxiety often masks deeper pain we've never processed. The anger from childhood bullying, the disappointment from broken relationships, the trauma we've buried—these create anxiety when triggered by present circumstances. God wants to reveal what's truly weighing you down. Ask Him to open the eyes of your understanding. What anger have you suppressed? What hurt have you never grieved? Freedom begins when you invite God into your heart's hidden places and allow His truth to heal what's been broken.

Day 5: Delivered, Delivering, Will Deliver

Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:8-10, 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Devotional: Paul experienced despair so deep he wanted to die, yet he proclaimed a three-fold testimony: God delivered us, God is delivering us, and God will deliver us. This is your story too. When storms threaten to overwhelm you, remember past victories—how God brought you through before. He's delivering you right now, even when you can't see His hand moving. And He will continue delivering you from future trials. Paul, who wrote "be anxious for nothing," also wrote "we were burdened beyond measure." He understood struggle intimately, yet he trusted God's faithfulness completely. You're not alone in feeling overwhelmed. But greater is He who is in you than any storm around you. Today, declare: "God delivered me, God is delivering me, God will deliver me." When you can't walk, He carries you. Thanks be to God who always causes us to triumph.

For 48 years, Living Water Church has stood not because of human strategy, but because wisdom built the house. This same wisdom is available to you today. When you face decisions that seem overwhelming, transitions that feel uncertain, or seasons that test your resolve, remember that God promises to give wisdom generously to all who ask. Wisdom isn't about having all the answers; it's about knowing the One who does. Today, invite God's wisdom into your circumstances. Let the fear of the Lord—deep respect and honor—become the starting point for every choice you make. Wisdom will steady you when everything else shakes.

Day 2: Faithful Through the Night Seasons
Reading: Psalm 30:5; Romans 5:3-5
Every believer and every church walks through night seasons—times when God seems silent, when progress feels slow, when the light dims. But here's the truth: God uses night seasons to prepare us for greater light. The darkness doesn't cancel your destiny; it deepens your dependence on God. Living Water Church has endured long nights, yet their light still shines because they remained faithful when answers seemed slow. Your waiting season is not wasted. God is strengthening your character, refining your faith, and positioning you for breakthrough. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Don't give up in the darkness. Keep praying, keep serving, keep believing. The night is never the end of your story—it's the prelude to your dawn.

Day 3: Leading Others to Righteousness
Reading: Daniel 12:3; Matthew 5:14-16

You were created to shine. Not for your own glory, but to lead others into the light of Christ. Daniel 12:3 promises that those who lead many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever. This isn't reserved for pastors or professional ministers—this is your calling. Every conversation, every act of kindness, every prayer offered on behalf of another is an opportunity to point someone toward Jesus. Your community still needs the light you carry. Riverhead needs it. Your workplace needs it. Your family needs it. Don't hide your light under a basket of insecurity or busyness. Let it shine boldly. Invite someone to church. Share your testimony. Pray with a friend. Your faithfulness in leading others to Christ has eternal significance. Heaven is keeping record of every soul touched through your obedience.

Day 4: The Power of Faithful Service
Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:58; Galatians 6:9

Your labor in the Lord is never in vain. Every prayer prayed, every dollar given, every volunteer hour served, every act of faithfulness matters eternally. Living Water Church has thrived because people kept serving when they were weary, kept praying when answers seemed delayed, kept giving when finances were tight. This is the power of faithful service—it builds something that outlasts us. You may not see immediate results from your obedience, but heaven does. God sees every sacrifice, every early morning prayer, every time you chose faithfulness over convenience. Don't grow weary in doing good. The harvest is coming. Your consistency is building the future, not just for yourself but for generations to come. Stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourself fully to the work of the Lord.

Day 5: Shining Now and Forever
Reading: Matthew 13:43; Philippians 2:14-16

One day you will stand before the Lord, and He will acknowledge every moment you chose to shine for Him. But here's the beautiful truth: you don't have to wait until heaven to shine. You can shine right now, right where you are. In a world filled with darkness, complaining, and hopelessness, you have the opportunity to shine like a star in the universe as you hold firmly to the word of life. Your best days are not behind you—they are still ahead. God is not finished with your story. He is not finished with His church. He is not finished with you. Today, choose to live wisely, love boldly, and lead others to righteousness. Let your light shine in your home, your workplace, your community. The headlines may not notice, but heaven is watching. And one day, the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father's Kingdom forever and ever.

Closing Reflection:

As you complete this devotional journey, remember that you are part of God's eternal plan to bring light to a dark world. Your faithfulness matters. Your prayers matter. Your witness matters. Standing in his pain, Jacob couldn't see that Joseph was alive, positioned, and preparing provision for the entire family. His perspective was limited to loss, but God's perspective encompassed restoration.

When circumstances overwhelm you, remember that your current chapter isn't the conclusion of your story. What appears as opposition may actually be divine positioning. God sees what you cannot—the connections being made, the character being formed, the breakthrough being prepared. Your incomplete perspective doesn't change God's complete plan.

Reflection: What situation in your life feels overwhelming right now? Can you trust that God sees beyond your current view?

Reading: Genesis 42:29-36

Day 2: All Things Working Together

Paul's declaration stands in stark contrast to Jacob's despair. "All things work together for good" doesn't mean all things are good—it means God is actively working within everything for your ultimate benefit. This isn't passive hoping; it's confident knowing that God wastes nothing in your life.

The pain you've experienced, the doors that closed, the prayers seemingly unanswered—none of it is wasted in God's economy. He's weaving every thread into a tapestry you can't yet see. This promise isn't for the perfect, but for "those who love God"—those who remain connected to Him even when understanding eludes them. Your love for God activates His transforming power in your circumstances.

Reflection: What past difficulty can you now see God used for your good? How does this build your faith for present challenges?

Reading: Romans 8:28

Day 3: More Than Conquerors

"More than conquerors" is a radical statement. You're not merely surviving—you're thriving. You're not just enduring—you're overcoming. This victory isn't reserved for when the battle ends; it's your identity in the middle of the fight.

The Greek word Paul uses suggests "hyper-victory"—winning so decisively that you gain more than what was at stake. Through Christ, your struggles become stepping stones, your tests become testimonies, and your trials become triumphs. The very thing meant to destroy you becomes the platform for your promotion. You're not waiting to become a conqueror; you already are one. Walk in that reality today, knowing that the One who loves you has already secured your victory.

Reflection: In what current battle do you need to see yourself as "more than a conqueror"?

Reading: Romans 8:35-37

Day 4: Inseparable Love

Paul's list is exhaustive and intentional: death, life, angels, demons, present, future, powers, height, depth—nothing can separate you from God's love. This isn't just poetic language; it's a declaration of unbreakable connection.

Your mistakes don't disqualify you. Your doubts don't distance you. Your failures don't diminish His commitment to you. The love of God in Christ Jesus isn't based on your performance but on His character. When you feel far from God, remember—He hasn't moved. His love isn't a feeling that fluctuates; it's a covenant that endures. No circumstance can alter His affection for you. You are held, known, and cherished regardless of what you face today.

Reflection: What fear or failure have you believed could separate you from God's love? Release it to His unchanging truth.

Reading: Romans 8:38-39

Day 5: The Power of Your Words

Jesus teaches that your words have creative power—they can bring life or death, salvation or destruction. Jacob declared, "All these things are against me," and lived in that reality. Paul declared, "All things work together for good," and experienced breakthrough even in prison.

Your words don't just describe your reality; they help create it. When you speak defeat, you reinforce defeat. When you speak God's promises, you align yourself with His purposes. This isn't positive thinking—it's faith speaking. When Joseph discovered Mary's pregnancy, he faced a moment that would define him. Rather than reacting in anger or shame, he demonstrated restraint and thoughtfulness. The pressure we face in life acts as a revealer, stripping away our carefully constructed facades and exposing our true nature. Joseph's response to his crisis shows us that godly character isn't about perfection—it's about how we handle ourselves when everything seems to be falling apart. Today, consider the pressures you're facing. Are they revealing a heart surrendered to God's purposes, or exposing areas that need His transforming work? Character isn't built in comfortable moments; it's forged in the fire of difficult decisions.

Day 2: Meekness and Faithfulness Combined

Reading: Deuteronomy 22:13-21; John 8:1-11

Joseph had every legal right to expose Mary publicly, even to invoke the death penalty. Yet he chose a different path—one of meekness and faithfulness. Meekness isn't weakness; it's strength under control. Joseph controlled his hurt, his reputation concerns, and his rights for something greater. He remained faithful to his commitment even when circumstances gave him an exit. This combination of meekness and faithfulness is rare but powerful. Jesus embodied these same qualities, likely learned from watching Joseph. When you have the right to retaliate, defend yourself, or walk away, do you choose the path of controlled strength? Faithfulness often costs us something, but it positions us for God's greatest purposes.

Day 3: Justice Tempered with Compassion

Reading: Matthew 9:36; Matthew 14:14; Matthew 15:32

Joseph was a just man who wanted to do right by Mary, but his justice was beautifully tempered with compassion. He could have been technically correct while being relationally destructive. Instead, he chose to protect Mary from public shame while still maintaining his integrity. Jesus demonstrated this same balance throughout His ministry—upholding truth while extending mercy. Justice without compassion becomes cruelty; compassion without justice becomes enabling. We need both. Consider your relationships today. Are you holding people to standards without offering grace? Or are you so focused on being nice that you're compromising what's right? Ask God for wisdom to balance truth and love, justice and compassion, just as Joseph did.

Day 4: Spiritual Sensitivity and Obedience

Reading: Matthew 1:20-21

Joseph's spiritual sensitivity changed everything. He didn't just hear from God; he responded immediately. When the angel revealed the truth about Mary's pregnancy, Joseph discovered he was part of a glorious divine plan. But revelation without obedience is worthless. Joseph could have dismissed the dream, rationalized it away, or delayed his response. Instead, he obeyed promptly, even though it meant personal sacrifice and social stigma. Obedience reveals our heart like nothing else. It's easy to say we love God when His commands align with our preferences. True devotion shows when obedience costs us something. What has God been speaking to you about? Is there an area where you've heard His voice but hesitated to obey? Today, follow Joseph's example—listen and respond.

Day 5: Qualified for God's Purpose

Reading: Luke 1:26-38; 1 Samuel 16:7

God was incredibly particular when choosing Jesus' earthly father. He needed someone with character, meekness, faithfulness, justice, compassion, spiritual sensitivity, and obedience. Joseph was "just a man," yet he possessed the qualities God required for an extraordinary assignment. God still has big jobs that need doing, and He's still looking for qualified people. The question isn't whether you're perfect—Joseph wasn't. The question is whether you're willing to develop the character God can use. Are you cultivating integrity when no one's watching? Choosing compassion over revenge? Obeying promptly rather than conveniently? God doesn't need your résumé; He's looking at your heart. Examine your life today. What needs to change for God to use you in bigger ways? Start there, and trust Him with the rest.

This devotional was brought to by Pastor George Dupree - For more from Pastor George see his blog posts here

God didn't send a message from heaven or dispatch an angel as His representative. He came Himself. When God wanted to communicate with humanity, He became one of us, entering our world as a vulnerable infant. This wasn't a temporary visit but a permanent commitment to walk alongside us. Today, reflect on areas of your life where you feel alone or abandoned. The promise of Immanuel is that God's presence goes with you through every season, every trial, every joy. He will be your guide even to the end. You are never alone.

Day 2: The Gift of Pardon
Reading: Luke 4:18-19; Romans 3:23-24; 1 John 1:9

Devotional:
Christmas announces the greatest pardon in history. Jesus came to set prisoners free—not just from physical chains, but from the guilt, shame, and condemnation that bind our souls. Out of sheer generosity, God put us in right standing with Himself. This wasn't earned or deserved; it was a pure gift. He got us out of the mess we created and restored us to where He always wanted us to be. Today, consider what burdens you're still carrying that Jesus already paid for. Are you living in the freedom of pardon or still imprisoned by past mistakes? Accept the pardon freely given and walk in the liberty Christ purchased for you.

Day 3: The Gift of Purpose
Reading: Jeremiah 29:11-13; John 10:10; Ephesians 2:10

Devotional:
You were made by God for God. Your existence isn't random or meaningless—you were crafted with intention and designed for purpose. God has plans for you, plans filled with hope and a future of success, not suffering. Jesus didn't come merely to get you into heaven someday; He came to give you abundant life today. When you discover your purpose in Him, you discover who you truly are and who you were always meant to be. Don't settle for just existing or merely surviving. Ask God today to reveal the specific purposes He has for your life. Turn back to Him, ask for help, and He will answer your prayers.

Day 4: Religion or Relationship?
Reading: John 10:10; Galatians 4:4-7; Romans 8:15-17

Devotional:
Jesus didn't come to give you religion—a set of rules, rituals, and regulations to follow. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy, often using religious obligation to rob you of joy. But Jesus came that you may have life and have it more abundantly. Stop trying to earn what has already been freely given. Unwrap the gift of relationship with God. You're not a servant working for wages; you're a child enjoying your Father's presence. God's blessing over your life includes protection, mercy, kindness, goodness, and peace. These aren't distant hopes for the future but present realities to unwrap and enjoy today. Many believers have received the gift but never opened it, living impoverished lives beside unopened treasures. Today is your invitation to fully unwrap what Jesus came to bring: His presence that never leaves, His pardon that completely forgives, and His purpose that gives meaning to every moment. Thank God for His indescribable gift, and then live like someone who has received everything they need. Let His blessing transform how you see yourself, your circumstances, and your future.

For me, one of those things is that I have a greater appreciation for all of the people in my life. I know that Carolyn and I have grown in our faith and as a couple we've grown closer to each other. I've seen my family grow and I'm very proud of them all. I've seen the church that I pastor not only survive but thrive this year. This month in our services, special events and a most beautiful candlelight Christmas Eve service we were able to reset Jesus as the canter of attraction during Advent. We were once again able to be very generous in our holiday outreaches, I know that because of that generosity a lot of people were able to have a wonderful Christmas. It's getting closer! Thanks for taking some of your valuable time to read and reflect for a few minutes today.
Today I'll give my thoughts on two descriptors of Jesus, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.

Yesterday I gave you my thoughts about Jesus being the Mighty God from this passage in the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end...

As we countdown the days until Christmas, I'm giving a brief thought on each of these five descriptors of Jesus. So here we go with the fourth one.

Jesus is the EVERLASTING FATHER and that tells me that He's ETERNAL.

In the Hebrew language Everlasting Father are the words ad (everlasting) and av (father) the first part, ad, means perpetual, eternal, without end and the second part, av, means chief, principal and father.

My father went to heaven a few days after Christmas in 2018, it was a sad day and still today I think of him often and I do miss him. When I was very young I never really thought of his humanity in the sense that one day his life here would be over. I suppose I looked at him as though he'd live forever, it was as if he was indestructible. As we both got older I'd see the signs of aging, slowing down, time was catching up to him. In the last few years of his life I watched him get a little weaker physically but he was still passionate about the Lord, he'd have a lot of trouble breathing, it was obvious that he really wouldn't live forever. Then December 28th came and one second he was here and then the next he was gone. He wasn't going to be with us forever...but in reality he still lives in heaven, albeit without difficulty walking or breathing!

Through Jesus our God is described as the EVERLASTING FATHER, he always has been and always will be. I see something about God that I probably wasn't aware of when I was younger and that is that He is my everlasting father and He will always be what a perfect father will be, he'll never stop being my father and he'll never stop loving me. My natural father cared for me, he protected me, he provided for me, he loved me no matter what and so on. My Heavenly Father does all that but he does it without end. He'll never die. In my heart I am so very grateful for my natural father and all that he was for me, I will never forget him. For me, he was a wonderful example of what my Heavenly Father has been and will always be for me. Whether you have had a great or terrible father here on earth I want you to understand that your Heavenly Father is so much greater than any early father could be. The Bible tells us that he loves us with and everlasting love and that's what comes to mind for me today, as a perfect father God will be just that forever and ever.

Maybe you'd like to pause for a second right now and say thank you to God for being your EVERLASTING FATHER.

God bless you, I'll be back tomorrow with the next installment on the Christmas Countdown.

It's getting really closer! I wonder how many kids will say "I can't wait" today. I also wonder how many Moms will say "I need more time" today.

Today I put up two posts. I gave you my thoughts about Jesus being the Everlasting Father from this passage in the book of Isaiah. This post is about how Jesus is our Prince of Peace, Shalom.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end...

As we've counted down the days until Christmas, I've given a brief thought on each of these five descriptors of Jesus. So here we go with the final one.

There's no doubt about it, the Christmas holiday season can be stress filled. But there's also no doubt about the truth that Jesus is the prince of peace and He understands exactly what we're going through. So here's a couple of thoughts on how to maneuver through the season with more peace. Perhaps after reading this you'll have a more Joy-Filled Christmas.

Jesus is the PRINCE of PEACE and that tells me that He's in touch with us and what we're going through.

In the Hebrew language Prince of Peace are the words SAR SHALOM. SAR (prince) means the head person, the governor and the keeper. SHALOM means peace, health, prosperity, well being and rest.

The wonderful promise in the Isaiah passage above is that God's peace will have no end. When I think of that it's makes me grateful for God's infinite mercy and forgiveness. You see, His forgiveness is what really gives us true peace. When we are forgiven we are at peace with Him, no more separation and no guilt and condemnation.

Everybody needs something and some of the things are common to all of us but the one thing that we all need is forgiveness of sin. We all sin in some way or another and our sin separates us from God. We may say "yeah, I make mistakes but I'm not that bad." Big sins or little sins, they're all sins. Yesterday I committed a "little" sin, I got mad at this guy in a parking lot who beeped his horn at me, the nerve of him. I yelled at him and he looked at me and said, sorry, I just thought you'd hit my car. I was close but not too close and I saw that I had room. Do you see how I just justified my anger...sad. When I drove away I felt lousy but I alsoI felt the hand of God on my shoulder and I KNEW that I needed to confess or agree that what just happened was sin. I knew that I had less peace after my yelling than before. So I said "sorry God, forgive me" and it was done and guess what, I felt better. It's the same with little sins and big sins, confess and receive peace.

Colossians 3:15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Maybe you'd like to pause for a second right now and say thank you to God for being the source of your PEACE.

God bless you and thank you for taking some time to experience this little Christmas Countdown. I pray that you'll have a wonder-filled Christmas.

Maybe I'll see you at tonights Christmas Eve Candlelight Service, it's at 6PM. We're live at the Church and online at https://lw.online.church as well.

It's getting closer! I hope you're enjoying the season and not getting too stressed. When you get overwhelmed and start to freak out because you don't think there's enough time to get everything done you really need to take a step back and get the perspective of what's truly important and that's to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Yes, we've all got a lot of things to get done in the next 2 days but putting Jesus first will help you to have peace and relax.

Yesterday I gave you my thoughts about Jesus being the Counselor from this passage in the book of Isaiah.

I also ate some of the great baked goods from Carolyn’s kitchen, here’s a big shout out to Joel, Jayden, Bailey and Jena for their work in the kitchen too!

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end...

As we countdown the days until Christmas, I've been giving a brief thought on each of these five descriptors of Jesus. So here we go with the third one.

Jesus is the MIGHTY GOD and that tells me that He's the ultimate super hero. In so many of the comics and fantasy stories there's the antagonist or the villain and then there's the protagonist or the hero. In the middle is always the victim, the character who's being bullied or abused. In the story of life, which is not a fantasy, there's the devil, the antagonist and then there's you and me, the victims of the torment of the devil. Thank God the story don't end there... that's right, there's the protagonist, the Mighty God - Jesus! The theme song from Mighty Mouse comes to mind "here I come to save the day...". And that's it, Jesus comes to save the day, our hero, the great protagonist comes along to rescue us from the disaster and He is POWERFUL!

In the Hebrew language Mighty God are the words gibbowr (mighty) and El (God) the first part, gibbowr, means powerful, warrior, champion, chief, mighty one, strong man, valiant man.

WOW, that a mighty powerful man, that's our Jesus.

A lot of times in those comics and fantasy stories the victim is getting pummeled, it looks bad, real bad. But, usually, at the last possible second the hero comes along and rescues them. In real life it sure seems like it's too late, like we're going down but hold on, help is on the way. the Bible says that whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved or rescued. So if you're in a place where you feel like you're going down for the final count call on the Lord, He'll hear you and rescue you.

Again, I want to stress what the angel said to Mary - "with God, nothing is impossible".

Three days before Christmas would be a good time to remember that on the third day Jesus was resurrected from the grave. God has perfect timing, hold on, help is on the way.

God bless you, I'll be back tomorrow with the next installment on the Christmas Countdown.

It's getting closer! I'm looking forward to start sampling the baked goods from Carolyn's Kitchen, they are always great! Some of our granddaughters and our grandson Joel will be here helping today. They're carrying on the family tradition of making delicious baked goods for Christmas. I hope there's some left after my sampling...

Yesterday I gave you my thoughts about Jesus being WONDERFUL from this passage from the book if Isaiah.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end...

As we countdown the days until Christmas, I'm going to give a brief thought on each of these five descriptors of Jesus. So here we go with the second one.

Jesus is COUNSELOR. When I see that word one of the things that comes to mind is that Jesus will give me advice on things. There are an awful lot of things that I need an outside perspective on and I can count on Jesus to advise me and give me good counsel. As we close 2025 we'll be looking to the Lord for guidance for our Church in 2026, your prayers are appreciated.

In the Hebrew language counselor is the word yaats which means to advise, to deliberate and to guide.

There's a passage in the Bible that tells us that God's thoughts and ways are higher than ours. What that means to me is that He's a lot smarter than me. So wouldn't I be foolish to think that I don't need His counsel? Whether we realize it or not we get counsel from people all the time, even if we're not asking them for it. That's not always a bad thing because when we can get another set of eyes and ears on something we shift from one perspective to two or more perspectives. There are certainly times that God will use someone else to help me see something more clearly and then I can make a better decision.

You may be facing something today that is overwhelming you and you just don't know what to do and for you to know that Jesus is the best counselor can inspire you to have a talk with Him about it and let Him give you guidance. Remember what was said yesterday, "with God, nothing is impossible".

Never forget that Jesus is Emanuel, God with us and He is with you! Don't worry about asking Him for advice, He'll be happy to help you out.

God bless you, I'll be back tomorrow with the next installment on the Christmas Countdown.

I hope that as you take a little time to read these posts you'll see a little bit more of what's inside the greatest gift of all, so let's unwrap Christmas.

One of the great verses in the bible about the Messiah is found in the writings of Isaiah the prophet who lived about 700 years before Jesus was born. This is what he said;

“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. For those who lived in a land of deep shadows —light! sunbursts of light have shined!”

This verse talks about the human condition without the hope that true light can bring. It also talks about shadows and we all know that shadows aren’t the real thing, they’re not a substance, shadows are like something but not really it.

Without the true light of God in our lives we’re walking around in the darkness and only seeing shadows, no real hope, no real peace, no real love or joy.

But because Jesus, the true light, came into this dark world we have hope, we can be forgiven of sin and we can really experience peace with God and His goodwill toward us. As beneficiaries of this wonderful gift of light we can see who Jesus really is, not a shadow but the real thing.

God became human, just like you and me. He became one of us so we could know Him.

After we experience the true light of Jesus we shine the light of Christ into a dark world and bring hope to someone else.

So, this Christmas season let your light shine. Let it shine brighter than ever before because one of the things that Jesus said is this “you are the light of the world.”

The road of our lives can have so many twists and turns, bumps and potholes that it is a challenge for anyone to keep going. But don’t give up because the Lord will give you the strength and direction that you need for your life.

As the scripture says in Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does the LORD require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your God?

God does show us what He wants us to do in life, we find that in the scriptures. Take a look at the scriptures everyday and you'll discover ways to live.

Now, what God wants to see is how we’re doing on the journey. Are we following His lead or are we losing focus? It can be easy to lose focus because of the distractions in life. We've got to keep the main thing the main thing. What God tells us is that if we're doing what He wants, if He likes what He sees, He’ll make every step we take sure.

God not only gives us the path to walk on; He strengthens us and gives us a secure and sure footing as we go. He really does give us everything that we need for this life’s journey.

In another version of the Bible the above verse says that the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. You see, He places the order, He delivers the order and He helps us along the way. What a wonderful Lord we have.

Prayer – Father, I thank you that you are always with me and you guide me through life’s journey. Help me to stay the course, to always look to you and to endure.

Not because of what I had to say but because of what people had to say in the video testimonies of how they came to the church and what the church meant to them. I especially remember Danielle Rodriguez' testimonial when she said a great memory of her church was when she was baptized and she said "wow, I'm with God". That was beautiful and by the way, Danielle Rodriguez is now Danielle Avella, she and Nik were married, via ZOOM, at the end of 2020!

Now we're in 2021 and guess what? I still love my church.

As I look back on 2020 there were so many wonderful things that took place in and through our church. Of course, we never thought that we'd be closed to in person gatherings for about 120 days but we were and we actually grew our church during that time. We were already offering online services for Sunday mornings along with occasional special events and that gave us a head start on what was to be a major shift in doing church. Immediately after we had to close the building for in person gatherings we began adding to the schedule of online services either through our online platform, Facebook, YouTube and ZOOM. Everything were were doing to connect as a church was online and we added three more weekend services as well. What we saw was astonishing to us, the amount of people viewing the online services more than quadrupled. The ZOOM meetings for Women and Men were attended by more than double the amount of people who were attending in person. The Joseph's Storehouse, our community outreach for food and clothing did remain open throughout the shutdown, hundreds of people received help during that time thanks to the awesome volunteers that serve in that ministry.

It was a challenging four months while we were closed to in person gatherings but the media and worship team did a phenomenal job of adapting and expanding. It was strange leading in worship and preaching when there was no audience but we all found ourselves picturing the people engaging in what we were doing and the response by the increased online attendance showed us that the audience was drawn into the worship and the word as we had hoped they would.

As I close I really wanted to make this point; in person and digital gatherings are vital to accomplish the calling that God has on Living Water Church. Someone observed that they appreciate the online preaching because they can stay focused on the message and refer back to it as well. Someone else said that they appreciated the online services but they are so very happy that we can meet in person again. However you attend please know that you're special to us.

We've seen about 70% of our church family back in the in person gatherings, that's just about double the national average. We've also seen new people join us too. There's also a lot of people who are still participating online because of various concerns and reasons. As Pastor I want tell everyone that they're very important and special to me and I would LOVE to hear your story of your in person and online church experience. Do you love Living Water Church? Would you please take a moment to comment on this blog page or perhaps send an email to me and share your thoughts, I'd truly appreciate it. For instance, there was a large group of Christians who were assembled and marching while they prayed for our nation. Another thing was that our governmental leaders were assembled to execute their sworn duty. Whether I agree with an elected official or not I am called on by the Lord to uphold them in prayer. It is much easier for me to pray heartfelt prayers for someone I agree with but my feelings are not the standard by which I need to conduct my life, Lord help me.

Another good thing that was taking place was that people were gathered to protest against what they feel is an injustice in our electoral process. When it became ugly, pathetic and horrible was when some of them stormed the Capital building. I think it’s very important to remember that not everyone who was protesting stormed the Capital.

When protest turns violent it’s no longer within our rights as citizens of a free nation. Uncontrolled anger is always to be condemned and yesterday’s assault on the Capital was uncontrolled anger and is to be condemned.

As horrible as the recent violence has been during 2020 the assault on the Capital rises to another level. Yes, the vandalism and attacks on public and private properties such as the Courthouse in Portland Oregon and various police stations and monuments, churches, synagogues and countless privately owned and operated business’ is also to be condemned. We should also remember that not every protestor was vandalizing and looting.

Right now people are looking for someone to blame and there certainly needs to be accountability and consequences for these actions. But would it possible for each of us to look into our own heart and see if there’s any hatred that’s either obvious or hiding in the shadows and renounce it and evict it from our life. It’s time for us all to live by the golden rule that tells us to treat others as we want to be treated. We can also get guidance from this passage of scripture –

James 1:19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; 20 for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.

I continue to love my country and I will continue to pray, please join me.

On Friday, January 8th @7pm we'll be praying at Living Water Church, if you can join us please do.

It was an insightful and thought provoking message of hope for my life.

There were a lot of great points and takeaways for me and some of them I'll share here. I hope to be meditating on my first impressions from the message as well as what God will impress me with over the next few days. If you're anything like me you don't want to just hear a great sermon you want to apply what you hear to your life. This is along the lines of the passage os scripture that tells us not to only hear the word but to doo the word as well.
James 1:22 Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything
but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear!

Pastor Joel opened with the the prayer of Jabez
1 Chronicles 4:10 Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that you would bless
me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would
keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain!” And God granted what
     he asked.

Here it tells us that Jabez prayed to God for God's blessings and an enlarged territory, so he asked God for more room to hold the blessings that we're coming. He understood that if he only had a small space he could only hold a small amount of blessing so he asked for more room.

Pastor Joel used the example of his computer not having enough room for an operating system upgrade and he found a lot of things in the trash on his computer and he had to decide to delete, completely, those files in order to have room for the upgrade. He said it's the same in life. For instance, we forgive someone so we delete the offense from our sight but it's still there in the trash, so if we want the heavenly upgrade we have to empty the trash and make room. I believe that if we stop and think for a moment we might find some things in the trash bin of our lives that are taking up precious space that a heavenly upgrade could go.

As I listened and took notes, yes, I do believe that there's a direct correlation to my Christian growth to the amount of things I note in order to remember and apply after the sermon. So, anyway, I thought of these two things...
1- What am I NOT asking for?
2 - What have I STOPPED asking for?

These were two takeaway's for me from Pastor Joel's message this weekend and I'm praying that God will keep me pinned to them for a while because I know there's things that I want for my life and I need to ask and I also know that there's things that I used to pray about that I need to get going on again.

Blessings and Peace to you my friend.

Oh, one last thing, as we approach the Christmas season think of the song that says "let every heart prepare Him room..." and prepare some room in your heart for Jesus.

The LORD’S name is to be praised.
Psalms 113:3 Everywhere—from east to west—
praise the name of the LORD.

Since I read this passage over forty years ago I have loved it and wanted it to be a part of my life. I know I haven't always lived up to praising God all day, everyday and everywhere but that's what I want to aim for. Personally, for me, giving God thanks has been at the foundation of my walk with my Lord. One day, soon after I gave my life to Jesus, I was taking my lunch break and I wanted to DO something spiritual like read my Bible or pray. I didn't know anything about a relationship with the Lord, I only knew religion so I thought if I sat in my car and read the Bible that'd be a good thing to do and of course, it would and is a good thing to do but not out of obligation but rather out of love and desire to know God. As I sat in my car and tried to figure out somewhere to read in the Bible I found myself just saying "thank you Jesus". After saying that a few times I thought this is crazy, all I can DO is to say that? Then I felt like it's OK, just tell Him thank you. I know now that was the Holy Spirit guiding me into a lifestyle of thanksgiving. From that day it never felt wrong to give God thanks.

When I read this passage in the two translations that I posted above I see a fuller meaning of the text. It's not only from sunrise to sunset, it's everywhere, from east to west that I will give God praise.

Praise can be described as complimenting God, it's saying thanks. So today, whether it's in the morning or evening and wherever you are just take a moment to give your Lord a compliment, believe me your soul will be refreshed and comforted.

A Prayer - thank you Lord for saving my soul, thank you Lord for making me whole. Right now, in this moment, I just want to say thank you Jesus, you've been so wonderful to me.
