Day 5: Building Yourself Up Through Prayer

Reading: 1 Corinthians 14:2-4, 14-15; Romans 8:26-27; Jude 20 

Devotional: Praying in tongues may seem mysterious, but it's one of the Holy Spirit's most practical gifts. When you pray in your prayer language, you bypass your limited understanding and pray God's perfect will. Your spirit communicates directly with God, speaking mysteries, magnifying Him, and building yourself up spiritually. Paul, who wrote much of the New Testament, thanked God that he spoke in tongues more than anyone. If this great apostle valued this gift so highly, shouldn't we? Make praying in the Spirit a daily discipline. When you don't know how to pray about a situation, let the Spirit intercede through you. When you need spiritual strength, edify yourself by praying in tongues. Step out in faith today—worship God in your own language, then yield to the Spirit and allow that supernatural language to flow. There is more available to you than you've yet experienced.
