5-Day Devotional: From the Road to the World
Day 1: When Jesus Walks Beside You
Reading: Luke 24:13-27
Devotional: The two disciples walking to Emmaus were drowning in disappointment, yet Jesus walked beside them the entire time. They didn't recognize Him, but He was there—listening, caring, and preparing to reveal Himself. Sometimes in your deepest discouragement, you may not feel God's presence, but He is walking with you. He doesn't rebuke your doubts; He listens to your heartbreak. Like these disciples, you may be heading in the wrong direction, confused about God's plan. But Jesus meets you right where you are. He doesn't leave you in your disappointment. Today, invite Him into your confusion. Ask Him to open your eyes to see that He's been there all along, walking beside you through every difficult step.

Day 2: Hearts Burning Within
Reading: Luke 24:28-35
Devotional: "Did not our hearts burn within us?" The disciples recognized something powerful was happening as Jesus opened the Scriptures to them. When we truly encounter God's Word, it ignites something deep inside us—a burning conviction, a renewed hope, a transforming truth. Notice that the disciples didn't wait until morning to respond. Within the hour, they were on their way back to Jerusalem, seven miles in the darkness. When you have a genuine encounter with Jesus, you cannot stay where you were. You cannot remain unchanged. The road to Emmaus was their turning point. Perhaps you're at your own turning point today. Don't delay your response to God's revelation. Let your heart burn with fresh passion for Him, and take immediate steps toward transformation.
Day 3: Peace in the Locked Room
Reading: Luke 24:36-43
Devotional: Jesus appeared to His frightened disciples in a locked room and spoke one word: "Peace." They were paralyzed by fear, confused by circumstances, hiding behind barred doors. Yet Jesus came right through their barriers and stood among them. You may feel locked in your own room of fear today—afraid of what's next, bewildered by unanswered questions, uncertain about the future. But Jesus specializes in entering locked rooms. He brings peace where there is panic, clarity where there is confusion, hope where there is despair. He doesn't just visit; He wants to inhabit your life. Notice that Jesus didn't just speak peace—He proved He was real by showing His hands and feet, even by eating with them. He makes Himself tangible in your life too. Welcome Him today into your locked room.
Day 4: You Are a Witness
Reading: Acts 1:4-8
Devotional: "You will be my witnesses." This isn't merely a suggestion—it's your identity as a follower of Christ. But notice: Jesus didn't say "you will talk about me" but "you will BE my witnesses." There's a profound difference between talking the talk and walking the walk. A witness in court simply tells what they saw, heard, and experienced. They don't prosecute or defend; they testify to truth. Your responsibility isn't to be the judge, jury, or attorney—just to share your authentic experience with Jesus. The younger generation especially wants to see genuine faith, not just hear religious words. They're looking for living examples of Christ's transforming power. Before you can be that witness, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit's power. You cannot do this in your own strength. Wait for, welcome, and walk in the Spirit's empowerment.
Day 5: From the Road to the World
Reading: Acts 2:1-4, 14-21
Devotional: The journey from the road to Emmaus led to the locked room in Jerusalem, and from there to the entire world. Fifty days after resurrection came Pentecost—when the Holy Spirit transformed fearful disciples into bold witnesses. Peter, who had denied Jesus three times, now stood before thousands proclaiming the gospel. This is the power of the Spirit: transforming your weakness into strength, your fear into courage, your silence into testimony. God's plan for you includes Jerusalem (those close to you), Judea (those similar to you), Samaria (those you struggle with), and the ends of the earth (everyone, everywhere). You don't need to manufacture this witness—the Holy Spirit produces it through you. Surrender yourself as a living sacrifice today. Ask to be filled and refilled with the Spirit. Your world needs what Christ has placed inside you. Be that living witness.
