Bless Me Indeed

Bless Me Indeed: A 5-Day Bible Reading Plan by George Duprée

Day 1: Praying With Boldness

Reading: Hebrews 4:16

Listen Here

In this passage, the writer of Hebrews urges believers to approach God's throne of grace with confidence, assuring them that they will find mercy and help in their time of need.
In this passage, the writer of Hebrews urges believers to approach God's throne of grace with confidence, assuring them that they will find mercy and help in their time of need.

Devotional:

Jabez did not whisper a timid request into the air and hope something good might happen. He called upon the God of Israel with intention and boldness. His prayer was not accidental. It was purposeful. Many of us hesitate to pray boldly because we fear disappointment, or because we have quietly accepted that our circumstances define our ceiling. But God does not reward reluctance. He responds to faith. Boldness in prayer is not arrogance. It is trust. It is the declaration that you believe God is who He says He is, and that He is capable of doing what He says He will do. Today, bring your largest request before God without apology.

Reflection: What prayer have you been afraid to pray boldly? What is holding you back from bringing it fully before God?

Application: Set aside a few minutes today specifically to pray one bold, specific request. Write it down. Date it. Return to it often.

Day 2: Blessed to Be a Blessing

Reading: Genesis 12:2

Listen Here

In this foundational verse, God speaks to Abraham and promises to make him into a great nation, to bless his name, and then declares the purpose of that blessing: that Abraham himself would become a blessing to others.

Devotional:

The prayer of Jabez was not selfish, though it might appear that way at first reading. He was not asking God to fill his pockets so he could sit in comfort. He was asking God to expand his capacity to serve, to influence, and to give. This is the pattern of God's blessing throughout Scripture. He blessed Abraham so that all the families of the earth might be blessed through him. He blesses you not as a stopping point but as a channel. A blessing that is hoarded becomes stagnant. A blessing that flows outward becomes a river of life to those around you. Receive generously. Give generously.

Reflection: In what areas of your life has God already blessed you? Are those blessings flowing outward to others, or have they settled?

Application: Identify one tangible way this week to use a blessing you have received, whether time, skill, resources, or encouragement, to serve someone else.

Day 3: The Hand of God Upon You

Reading: Exodus 33:14-15

Listen Here

In this passage, God tells Moses that His presence will go with him and give him rest. Moses responds by declaring that if God's presence does not accompany them, he does not want to move at all.

Devotional:

Jabez prayed that the hand of God would be with him. He understood something that many people spend a lifetime learning: that blessing without divine presence is an empty achievement. Moses understood this as well. Moses said he would only move with God's presence. This is the posture of a mature believer. Not simply asking God to bless the plans you have already made, but asking God to go with you into every space you occupy. His hand upon your life means guidance when the path is unclear, protection when danger is near, and correction when you drift. Do not settle for results without relationship.

Reflection: Are you pursuing God's presence as much as you are pursuing God's provision? What does it look like practically to invite His hand into your daily decisions?

Application: Before making any significant decision today, pause and ask specifically for God's guidance. Practice making that a consistent habit rather than a last resort.

Day 4: Rising Above Your Label

Reading: Romans 8:37-39

Listen Here

In this passage, Paul declares that believers are more than conquerors through Christ, and that nothing, whether present or future, height or depth, can separate them from the love of God.

Devotional:

Jabez carried a name that meant sorrow and pain. Every time someone called out to him, they were, in effect, reminding him of suffering. And yet the Bible describes him as more honorable than his brothers. He did not allow the label assigned at birth to become the ceiling of his life. He prayed to be the opposite of his name. Many people today live beneath labels that were placed on them by people or circumstances, or their own failures. Those labels whisper that you are not enough, that you are defined by your worst moment, that your beginning determines your end. God declares otherwise. You are His child. His beloved. The object of a love that no force in creation can sever.

Reflection: What labels have you accepted about yourself that contradict what God says about you? Where did those labels come from?

Application: Write down one negative label you have carried. Beside it, write one truth from Scripture that directly contradicts it. Read that truth aloud each morning this week.

Day 5: The God Who Answers

Reading: Jeremiah 33:3

Listen Here

In this verse, God invites His people to call upon Him with the promise that He will answer and reveal great and hidden things that they do not yet know.

Devotional:

The most striking part of the story of Jabez is its ending. It does not say God considered his request. It does not say God partially responded. It says God granted him what he requested. Jabez prayed, and God answered. This is not a guarantee that every prayer produces the exact outcome we envision, but it is a declaration that God is a God who responds to those who seek Him with sincerity and faith. Jabez was a man buried in a list of names, easy to overlook, carrying a painful legacy. And yet God saw him, heard him, and moved on his behalf. God sees you too. He has not overlooked you. Call upon Him. He will answer.

Reflection: Do you genuinely believe that God hears your prayers? Is there a past unanswered prayer that has made you hesitant to ask again?

Application: Return to the bold prayer you wrote on Day 1. Pray it again today with fresh faith. Trust that the God who answered Jabez is the same God who hears you.
