Christmas Countdown - Day 5

It's Sunday, December 20th and there's 5 Days until Christmas. It's exciting, isn't it? Right now there's a lot of baking going on in my house, I'm excited about that. Family recipes are once again being used to bake some tasty treats for the holiday. Some of these recipe's are older than I am and I'm older than...well, let's just say they span over 6 decades.

When I see that there's five days until Christmas I immediately think of the five attributes of Jesus, the promised Messiah, from the book of Isaiah, and here they are.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end...

This week, as we countdown the days until Christmas, I'm going to give a brief thought on each of these five descriptors of Jesus. So here we go with the first one.

Jesus is WONDERFUL. Just like children are filled with wonder at Christmastime we too can be filled with wonder and amazement about who Jesus is and what wonderful things He has done for each of us.

In the Hebrew language wonderful is the word pele which means a miracle, a marvelous thing and wonderful.

As the story of Jesus, goes Jesus was born of a virgin and that in itself is a miracle and a marvelous thing. Not only that, it can make you wonder, right? Mary, Jesus' mother, wondered how this could be and the angel explained to her that it would happen by the Holy Spirit coming upon her and overshadowing her with the power of God and that's a miracle.

Sometimes we can be facing an impossible situation and we will wonder how can we overcome it and if we look to God and listen to Him we'll hear the same words that the angel said to Mary "with God, nothing is impossible".

Never forget that Jesus is still a miracle maker and because of that you can have hope for your life. Jesus is marvelous and wonderful and that's what makes us wonder-filled for our lives.

God bless you, I'll be back tomorrow with the next installment on the Christmas Countdown.
