Remember People

REMEMBER PEOPLE
Weekend of August 28th & 29th, 2021 – Pastor George M. Dupree

As we are approaching the fall season I want to stir our hearts to Remember People. There are several opportunities for each of us to remember people in the upcoming months.

We have Back to School Bash on September 12th – Remember Kids
We have a couples meeting planned in September – Remember Your Married Friends
We have a young adults get together in September – Remember young adults
We have our Thanksgiving Outreach – Remember people in need
We have our Christmas Holiday Outreach – Remember people in need

Everyone has purpose in life.

There was a lady who died not too long ago and she was over 114 years old. Guess what question she was asked? What’s your secret to a long life? She said that she always knew that God had a purpose for her life. She knew that she wasn’t just living or existing; she had purpose.

A good indicator of your pursuit of your purpose is how you start your day. So, for a moment think about how you start your day.

Is purpose behind it?

Benjamin Franklin would say to himself every morning “What Good Shall I Do Today” and before bed each night he said “What Good Did I Do Today?”

Many of the purposes we have vary but as Christians this is a common purpose that we have, to reach out to people with a message of hope.

The Apostle Paul told the church at Philippi that in this dark and polluted world they were to carry the light-giving message into the night.

Remembering People is Outreach and outreach is a verb; it’s an action word. It simply means to reach out. One of the purposes of the Church is to reach out into our world and touch people’s lives with the Gospel message; the Gospel message is Good News.

One of the hindrances to sharing this message is that we sometimes believe that people don’t want to hear about God. But really, they do.

People want to know that they have purpose in life; they want to know God. One time Paul went to Athens and told the people about Jesus.
  • Acts 17:16 (KJVS) Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

  • Acts 17:22 (NIV) Paul then stood up in the meeting of the Areopagus and said: “Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. 23 For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. Now what you worship as something unknown I am going to proclaim to you.

It’s in people to worship something; God has planted eternity in the human heart. When people hear the good news of God’s awesome LOVE they will want to know Him.
  • Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NLT) God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart,

We have to remember that they want to hear about GOD. They don’t want religion, as they know it, rules and regulations. But they long to light that candle that God placed in them called eternity.

People will often know something’s missing from their life, they just don’t know what. We know what it is; it’s a thriving relationship with God. It starts by us being born again. That’s when we begin to see heaven, that’s when we begin to enter into the kingdom of God.

Have you ever heard stories about someone who had a sibling they had never met but inside they knew there was something missing? Then somehow they meet them and now they feel connected. It’s the same thing with people who don’t know Jesus. They have a brother that they’ve never met but when they meet Him they feel connected.

People need to know that there is a God who will pick them up and forgive and heal them even when they are still sinning.
  • Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

People need to hear about how God changed your life. They need to hear your story. Jesus said we’d be His witness’, a witness tells their story, that’s all, their story.

What you need to understand is that your story is still being written. God began a good work in you and the bible says in
  • Philippians 1:6 He’s faithful to complete it.

Our mission must be driven by love. If people can understand that God loves them unconditionally their heart will open to Him. If people can know that God wants to bring them into His marvelous light so they won’t have to stumble in the darkness anymore their heart will open to Him.

If you can honestly communicate your story of forgiveness and a new life their heart will open to Him.

Here’s what Jesus told Paul, while he was still a sinner, persecuting the Church.
  • I’m sending you off to open the eyes of the outsiders so they can see the difference between dark and light, and choose light, see the difference between Satan and God, and choose God. I’m sending you off to present my offer of sins forgiven, and a place in the family, inviting them into the company of those who begin real living by believing in me. Acts 26:17-18 (MESSAGE)

Jesus is telling us the same thing today, go to outsiders, those who don’t know the Lord, the un-churched, the non-believer and tell them that God loves and accepts them. He’s telling us to present the offer of sins forgiven.
  • 1John 1:7 (MESSAGE) But if we walk in the light, God himself being the light, we also experience a shared life with one another, as the sacrificed blood of Jesus, God’s Son, purges all our sin. He’s telling us to tell them that they can have a place in God’s family.

  • John 1:12 (NIV-G/K) Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God —

Remembering People is a clear and universal objective – We have to reach out; there’s someone waiting for you.
  • Psalm 67:2 Send us around the world with the news of your saving power and your eternal plan for all mankind. (TLB)
