It's Monday, December 20th and there's 5 Days until Christmas. It's exciting, isn't it? These times can also be a little stress filled too.
This week, as we countdown the days until Christmas, I'm going unwrap a thought about Christmas. I hope that as you take a little time to read these posts you'll see a little bit more of what's inside the greatest gift of all, so let's unwrap Christmas.
One of the great verses in the bible about the Messiah is found in the writings of Isaiah the prophet who lived about 700 years before Jesus was born. This is what he said;
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. For those who lived in a land of deep shadows —light! sunbursts of light have shined!”
This verse talks about the human condition without the hope that true light can bring. It also talks about shadows and we all know that shadows aren’t the real thing, they’re not a substance, shadows are like something but not really it.
Without the true light of God in our lives we’re walking around in the darkness and only seeing shadows, no real hope, no real peace, no real love or joy.
But because Jesus, the true light, came into this dark world we have hope, we can be forgiven of sin and we can really experience peace with God and His goodwill toward us. As beneficiaries of this wonderful gift of light we can see who Jesus really is, not a shadow but the real thing.
God became human, just like you and me. He became one of us so we could know Him.
After we experience the true light of Jesus we shine the light of Christ into a dark world and bring hope to someone else.
So, this Christmas season let your light shine. Let it shine brighter than ever before because one of the things that Jesus said is this “you are the light of the world.”
